HortiMaX to play important role in geothermal energy project
Dutch pot plant nursery ‘Ammerlaan’ has embarked on a geothermal energy project designed to meet its heating needs and those of a number of businesses in the surrounding area. HortiMaX and its subsidiary Montera Techniek – as part of Essent Local Energy Solutions – will play an important role in installing the necessary electrical and control systems in Ammerlaan's glasshouse facilities. Ammerlaan hopes to pump up sufficient geothermal energy to provide itself and the surrounding businesses with renewable energy.

The first stage of the project will involve installing an underground heat transfer pipe to the Staniscollege secondary school and a local sports centre. Ammerlaan will start drilling for geothermal energy in September, using the exploration permit granted to the Delft University of Technology in August 2009. The university, the Delft Geothermal Energy Project and the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp will be working closely together to develop the geothermal energy resources as responsibly as possible.
In addition to the Ammerlaan nursery, the geothermal project will make the above-mentioned secondary school and sports centre more sustainable. In facilitating this project, the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp aims to speed up the transition from fossil to renewable energy. As a result, this project is one that falls entirely within the scope of Essent Local Energy Solutions (ELES).
