Synopta 2.8 offers many benefits under Windows 7

The new Synopta 2.8 software has been designed to be fully compatible with Windows 7. Various software components in this latest Synopta version have been modified to make the best possible use of the new features in Windows 7. As a result, the software is more secure because it utilises the Windows 7 firewall and user account control. The software is also faster because it runs on the latest 64-bit version of Windows, which makes optimum use of the large memory capacities and multitasking features that modern PCs have to offer. All new HortiMaX workstations come with Windows 7 as standard.  

Synopta 2.8 offers the following Windows 7-related benefits:
•  Windows 7 improves the performance and reliability of Synopta.
•  The 64-bit version of Windows 7 makes optimum use of the large memory capacities and multitasking features that 64-bit PCs have to offer.
•  User account control minimises the risk of a customer’s PC being infected by malevolent software and warns the customer if an unknown program is about to execute a potentially unsafe task.
• The Windows 7 firewall protects the customer’s PC, so that personal data, such as passwords, usernames, financial data and private information cannot be accessed by cybercriminals. 

Stricter system requirements for Synopta 2.8
In order to continue to meet our customers' high expectations, we have updated Synopta's hardware requirements (see below).

Synopta Server System Requirements
• Processor: Pentium 4 or higher (2 GHz recommended)
• At least 2 GB RAM
• Operating System:
  * MultiMa 4.x with Synopta 2 up to version   2.7.6 --> Windows XP with SP1
  * Synopta 2 version 2.7.6 or higher --> Windows XP with SP2 up to Windows 7
  * Synopta 2 version 2.8 or higher --> Windows 7 or higher
• Free COM ports for connecting process computers (except for the MultiMa) or the atomic clock
• Two independent network adapters
• Backup drive or NAS storage device

Synopta workstation system requirements
• Processor: Pentium 4 or higher (2 GHz recommended)
• At least 1 GB RAM. If running Windows 7, 2 GB RAM is required.
• Operating System: Windows XP with SP2, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Synopta 2 will be available from mid-August 2010. HortiMaX customers who have a maintenance contract with Synopta support will receive a substantial discount.
